The 49th Indonesian Ophthalmologist Association (IOA) Annual Scientific Meeting and The 39 th Asia Pasific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress
The APAO 2024 Congress was an annual international scientific congress organized by the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology. The event took place at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Centre, Indonesia, on February 22–25, 2024. The event collaborated with the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association and was conjugated with the 49th Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (IOA) Annual Meeting.
The 49th IOA Annual Meeting adopted the theme "TAKSU BALI" which was an abbreviation of Technological Advancement and Awareness, Knowledge Sharing, Surgical Innovation, and Uniting Experts Beyond All Limits. The event started with an opening speech by Cokorda Istri Dewiyani Pemayun, MD, the chairman of IOA Bali. It took place over four days online on February 3, 4, 10, and 11, divided into two rooms, Room A and B. Overall, the event was split into Free Paper (FP) presentation sessions, Didactic Course sessions, Industrial Symposium, Genetics Study Group, IOA Branch sessions, and Plenary Sessions.
Having been part of the Annual Scientific Meeting and experiencing the TAKSU Bali theme was an inspiring journey. The theme of the APAO 2024 Congress was "Beyond All Limits", with a clear purpose to prepare current ophthalmology practitioners for the evolving future of eye treatment. The event was opened by the President of the APAO 2024 Congress, Dr. Mohamad Sidik, followed by APAO President Prof. Ava Hossain and IOA Chairman Prof. Budu Mannyu.
The 39th APAO 2024 was held for four days from February 22nd to 25th, 2024, divided into seven large rooms, namely Uluwatu, Kintamani, Pecatu, Showcase Theater (Nusa Dua), Mengwi, Tanjung Benoa, and Singaraja. Overall, the event was divided into scientific sessions, including challenging case presentations, video symposiums, free paper presentations, workshops, instruction courses, paper poster presentations, symposia, and wet lab courses.
There were various scientific presentation sessions consisting of IGS, INASCRS, INAVRS, INASOPRS, INOIIS, INARVOS, and INACOS in each room, conducted simultaneously. The APAO Congress was an annual meeting point for ophthalmologists in the Asia-Pacific region. Beyond its scientific activities, the event also provided a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences while enjoying the hospitality of the Island of the Gods. It not only disseminated the latest developments in ophthalmology but also enriched my understanding of eye problem prevention and treatment.
