Ophthalmology Udayana Guest Lecture with Allen Omid Eghrari, MD, MPH
The Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, organized a special guest lecture featuring Dr. Allen Omid Eghrari, MD, MPH, a renowned ophthalmologist from the United States. This event took place on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, and addressed highly relevant topics in the field of ophthalmology.
Dr. Eghrari delivered an in-depth presentation on three major issues in ophthalmology: Managing Persistent Postoperative Corneal Edema, CXL for Keratoconus, and Recurrent Corneal Erosion. The lecture attracted attention and provided additional knowledge for Udayana ophthalmology residents.
Managing Persistent Postoperative Corneal Edema – Dr. Eghrari discussed the latest strategies for managing corneal edema that persists after surgery. He emphasized the importance of accurate diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach in addressing this condition.
CXL for Keratoconus – Cross-linking (CXL) for keratoconus was highlighted as a significant innovation by Dr. Eghrari. He explained how this technique can slow the progression of keratoconus, particularly in young patients, while reducing the risk of corneal transplantation.
Recurrent Corneal Erosion – The final topic covered the management of recurrent corneal erosion. Dr. Eghrari provided practical guidelines and shared his clinical experience in treating patients with this condition.
This event is part of Udayana University's efforts to continuously improve the quality of ophthalmology education and eye care services in Indonesia.
