The Ophthalmology Residency Program at Udayana University organized a special guest lecture on Saturday, January 6, 2024. The event featured Dr. Daniel J. Siegers, Sp.M, an ophthalmologist and residency supervisor at the Ambon-Vlissingen Eye Clinic, one of the affiliated network institutions of Udayana University.
This guest lecture, themed "Phacoemulsification Lecture and Wetlab: Preparation for the Ambon Rotation," was attended by all Udayana ophthalmology residents. Dr. Daniel opened the session by presenting the basic principles of phacoemulsification and cataract surgery techniques. He also emphasized the importance of preparation and understanding for residents before starting their network rotations to improve surgical outcomes.
In addition to the guest lecture, the event included a wetlab session where participants had the opportunity to directly practice phacoemulsification techniques using microscopes and training simulators. "Wetlabs like this are invaluable experiences for honing technical skills, especially for residents," said one of the participants.
